Kristen Small joined the Mass Academy faculty in 2017 after teaching English at the Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School in Marlborough and Blackstone Valley Vocational High School in Upton. Her scholarly interests include intertextuality between ancient and contemporary texts, American history and literature, and the history of science fiction. Her courses focus on the importance of verbal and written communication, and she is passionate about teaching the importance of literature, history, and the arts to the next generation of programmers, engineers, and entrepreneurs.
Outside of the classroom, she co-advises the MAMS SAGA club and coaches the slam poetry team. She enjoys cooking, gardening, traveling, and spending time with her family and pets.
Small holds a BA in English, an MA in English with a concentration in American literature, and a MAT in secondary education and curriculum.
