National Merit Commended Students C’2019
Worcester, Mass. – September 21, 2018 – Twenty-one students from the Mass Academy of Math and Science at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) were recognized as “National Merit Commended Students” in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program. A letter of commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, will be presented to these scholastically talented seniors.
The seniors are Zeynep Alptekin (Shrewsbury), Shreyashee Bhattacharjee (Westborough), Robert Clark (Tewksbury), Javier Dobles (Holden), Joyce Fang (Northborough), Achilles Gatsonis (Holden), Andrew Goering (Marlborough), Rumani Kafle (Worcester), Hava Kantrowitz (Worcester) , Charles Kennedy (Worcester), Anna Kopyra (Grafton), Christopher Lobo (Holden), Rishab Mehta (Sharon), Praneet Mekala (Shrewsbury), Krish Nathan (Westborough), Vishnu Penubarthi (Shrewsbury), Pranay Pherwani (Shrewsbury), Sreshtaa Rajesh (Northborough), Ryan Ravitz (Millville), Eesha Verma (Northborough) and Abagail Wren (Sutton).

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic progress. Although they will not continue in the 2019 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2019 competition by taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
