Mass Academy – STEM Fair 2023

March 3, 2023

Mass Academy held its annual STEM Fair, in-person this year, on February 16, 2023.

The annual STEM Fair is an important event in the life of a Mass Academy student, where the community celebrates the hard work, dedication, and passion put towards each student’s independent research project. Congratulations to all juniors who have participated in this years STEM projects. Everyone worked hard in completing their project, developing their narrative and practicing their communication skills. We are honored to have witnessed how much growth each and every student had since the beginning of August.

The STEM Fair judges, consisting of Mass Academy alumni and individuals from academia and industry, were very impressed with all of the projects. Students received great feedback about their work and presentations.

Based upon the scores from our judges, the individuals advancing onto the Worcester Regional Science and Engineering Fair (WRSEF) on March 10, 2023 are:

Student Name Project Title
Bangari, Ashwina Development of a Novel Point of Care Allergen Detection System
Chen, Alex Assessing the Efficacy of Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy for Public Speaking Anxiety
Chen, Amy Using a Mathematical Model to Personalize Keyboards for Users Missing Digits
Palit, Isabella Determining the Effects of IGF-1 on Collagen Production and Morphology in Smooth Muscle Cells to Improve Understanding of Uterine Leiomyoma Pathology
Patel, Krisha The Effects of Varying Ground Surfaces on the Degree of Footstrike Hemolysis
Reddy, Nihitha Enhancing Psychiatric Disorder Classification Based on MRI Scans with Biomarker Analysis
Santra, Rianna Leveraging Differential Gene Expression Analysis and Agent-Based Modeling to Detect Biomarkers of Brain Cancer Subtypes
Shekhar, Anshika The Effectiveness of a Standardized Herbal Mixture of Antioxidants as a Preventative Treatment for PTSD and its Symptoms in C. elegans
Tang, Charles Semi-trailer Truck Right-Hook Turn Blind Spot Alert System for Detecting Vulnerable Road Users Using Transfer Learning
Thinagar, Nevin Cost Effective On-Orbit Millimetric Orbital Debris Detection and Characterization
Tie, Anne PD-L1 Expression is Upregulated in Tumor Infiltrating Myeloid Cells of Young Tumor-Bearing Hosts
Yu, Joseph Using Immune Footprints in a Novel Deep Learning Model to Detect Human Diseases

From WRSEF, students have an opportunity to advance onto the Massachusetts Science and Engineering Fair (MSEF). There is also potential to directly advance onto ISEF, the International Science and Engineering Fair, held in May in Dallas, TX. Nonetheless, we encourage all students to seek additional opportunities to continue their work, join a research lab, and present at other conferences.

Please take this opportunity to congratulate the Mass Academy Juniors on the tremendous job put forth in their projects.
