Mass Academy Students Invited to Participate in 2025 MJAS Fall Symposium
Two seniors and one junior from the Massachusetts Academy of Math and Science at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Mass Academy) have been invited to participate in the Massachusetts Junior Academy of Science (MJAS) fall symposium scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 11th, on the MIT campus. Students were selected based on their outstanding performance at the 2025 Massachusetts Science and Engineering Fair or the International Science and Engineering Fair.
The Mass Academy students recognized by MJAS and their research project titles are: Vyshnavi Donthabhaktuni: Investigating the Neuroprotective Effects of T. Ammi on Parkinson’s Disease via the Gut-Brain Axis, Avani Jain: Pathophysiological Disruption of the Endothelial Glycocalyx by Microplastic Contamination, and Nichelle Thinagar: Creating a Soft Biomimetic Robotic Snake With an Anisotropically Frictional Skin Design for Rubble Search and Recovery.
Mass Academy students have earned recognition at state and international fairs, as well as from MJAS, and we could not be prouder of their accomplishments. “What really stands out about our students isn’t just the awards, but the professionalism and maturity they show throughout the research process,” said Ted McCarthy, Director of Mass Academy. For many, this was their first experience taking on an independent research project. “Their curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving skills are exactly what the future of the STEM workforce needs. And we’re fortunate to have exceptional educators like Dr. Crowthers, who provide the mentorship and support that help students succeed.”
The Massachusetts Junior Academy of Science is a regional affiliate of the American Junior Academy of Science (AJAS), a national honor society that recognizes high school students from across the country for their outstanding scientific research. The Massachusetts Junior Academy of Science selects delegates to participate in the AJAS national convention, which will be held in February.
